Veteran journalist, Mark Stevens was diagnosed with bowel Cancer in 2021, aged 50 after experiencing symptoms.
Passionate about raising awareness for Australia’s second deadliest cancer after delaying seeing his GP to investigate his symptoms, Mark is helping to Bowel Cancer Australia to encourage Aussies to take bowel cancer seriously.
Mark experienced a few niggling symptoms during the several months he spent reporting from the AFL hub in Queensland, during the pandemic in 2020.
“As I was working in the AFL hub and ignored my symptoms thinking it was nothing sinister.”
Luckily, the cancer was caught early and had not spread beyond the bowel. However, Mark has a stark warning - “Get Checked”!
“Effectively the message is get yourself checked because if I had left it, it obviously could have been a lot worse."
Warmest thanks for your support, Mark!
