Former Australian Golfer and now media personality Mark Allen wants to use his profile to help Bowel Cancer Australia raise awareness for Australia’s second deadliest cancer.
Diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer in 2018 at the age of 49, Mark considers himself lucky.
“I met Dr Wells at Kingston Heath Golf Club in a chance meeting and to be frank, if I hadn’t I may not be alive today.
When I explained to him that I had blood in my poo and had been told it could be haemorrhoids, he immediately fast-tracked a colonoscopy and discovered the cancer in my bowel.
Not only that, he also discovered it had spread to my lungs. He urgently operated removing 70 per cent of my rectum and 18 per cent of my lungs. He quite simply, saved my life!”
“My message to everyone is, know what bowel cancer symptoms are and don’t delay, make sure you get them checked!”
Warmest thanks for your support, Mark!
